Sun Ministries Leadership Training Center

What is Leadership? Our view of leadership is the ability to cast a compelling vision and empower people to engage in that vision through their God given skills, talents, and gifting, by serving others selflessly.

Sun Ministries is committed to recruiting, training, empowering, and releasing a new generation of leaders that possess the qualities listed below.

Leaders...
* Are passionate about their vision
* Are committed to personal consecration
* Are committed to personal development
* Have the ability to communicate
* Serve others selflessly
* Exhibit humility
* Act decisively
* Are willing to take risks

The Leadership House will serve as the primary residence of the Executive Director of Sun Ministries. The Leadership House will also serve as the primary residence of the Saint Louis Summer Interns. This arrangement will allow the Executive Director to develop young leaders in a life-on-life discipling relationship. The intense internship program offered through Sun Ministries will require the interns to fully engage in applying their vision to real people in real life situations.

The Challenge
Interns will be required to make a personal leadership development plan for themselves and the community.

Their personal plan will include vision development, personal character introspection, personal skill evaluation, and communication building exercises.

Each area of personal development will be addressed with a customized plan for each individual intern. The implementation of the plan and the evaluation of the progress will be supervised by the Executive Director of Sun Ministries.

Real Life Training with Purpose
Interns will be asked to engage the community through service. Their projects will be at their discretion to design and implement. Each plan must be presented by the intern to the Sun Ministries Board of Directors.

Their plan must include the following qualities. Their project must address a real need in the community. Their project must utilize resources that are readily available to the intern. Each intern will be given a budget for their project and they will be assessed on their ability to handle that budget. Each intern will be challenged with connecting with the residents of the community and raising up leadership from the community that will allow the program to continue after the intern has left the area.

The issues that are present in the target area around the Leadership House are common to many inner city areas in America. The interns will be challenged to develop programs that can have significant impact on a national level. Sun Ministries will facilitate the development of successful programs and seek to help the young leaders to implement the programs to their fullest benefit nationally.

The Future
Sun Ministries will continue to work with interns that create successful programs. We will facilitate follow up training and support to help the young leader reach the full potential of the new program.

Year Round Use
The Leadership Center will be utilized throughout the year to bring potential missionaries to America to our work in Hyde Park. While staying at the Leadership Center they will engage in the work of Sun Ministries as we seek qualified leaders to help us expand to other Inner City areas in America.

The property we have chosen is a historic home that was built in 1879. This property has been unoccupied for over 15 years and is currently owned by the city of St. Louis' Community Development Agency. We believe that saving and restoring this property will be a major benefit to the Hyde Park Neighborhood for many years to come. This is a prestigious property with high visibility in the area. It borders on Hyde Park, which has a proposed 3.3 million-dollar rehab in the works. Restoring this property and using it to bring this level of community service to Hyde Park will benefit the community both physically and emotionally.
